Residential Living and Development
The Chandler-Gilbert Arc currently operates group homes and
apartment settings. These homes are designed to instruct the
individuals in everything from personal care to home management
skills such as laundry, menu planning, meal preparation, shopping
and budgeting. These services are provided in a family atmosphere
with great attention given to the rights and privacy as well
as self-advocacy skills of the individuals we serve. Weekend
and evening outings in the community not only provide our
clients with the opportunity to have fun, but also to serve
to provide opportunities to learn recreational and socializational
skills.
Private Apartment Living Program
Chandler-Gilbert Arc operates semi-independent living program
for persons who may not qualify for traditional apartment
living programs. These single bedroom apartments are the final
step towards independent living. Besides receiving training
in community living skills (i.e. cooking, budgeting, menu
planning, laundry) these individuals also learn skills such
as how to plan recreational activities, how to use the public
transportation system, etc. The individuals are encouraged
to participate in community activities on an independent basis
as well as congregate activities such as picnics, trips, parties,
barbecues, etc. Staff serve as role models to promote independent
thinking and self-advocacy.
